BLANK
MOULDING
TECHNOLOGY

What sets us apart is our pioneering use of a solutions-driven approach with blank moulding technology—an innovation that few companies worldwide can claim. Moulded Optics is a versatile leader in precision optical components. We specialise in producing high-quality optical elements, including lenses, prisms, and concave mirrors, for various industries.

Our advanced blank-moulding technology enables cost-effective production, making us a top choice for industries including: lighting technology, optoelectronics, digital projection, traffic control/runway lighting, medical technology, automotive, and polymer injection moulding. Additionally, our expertise extends to airfield lighting, where we provide essential optical components for safe aircraft operations.

1. LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY

For top-quality lighting in theatres, stages, trade shows, and musical events, you need excellent optical parts like lenses, prisms, and concave mirrors. Moulded Optics can make these parts efficiently, saving you money.

2. OPTOELECTRONICS

Moulded Optics uses advanced blank-moulding tech to create optical parts for optoelectronic gear. If you want, we can also put together optical, electronic, or mechanical pieces for you.

3. DIGITAL PROJECTION

Digital projection is becoming popular, and using blankmoulding tech, we make aspheric, relay and concave lenses, along with other optical parts like integrator plates. These additions make your projections look fantastic.

4. TRAFFIC CONTROL/ RUNWAY LIGHTING

Nowadays, many traffic control and runway lighting systems use special non-glare prisms, making the lights more efficient. These lights need to be very precise and tough to work reliably and save money in the long run. Moulded Optics makes these special prisms using advanced blank-moulding technology, ensuring they meet the high standards set by the FAA. This technology helps produce high-quality optical parts cost-effectively.

5. MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

Moulded Optics creates custom-made, super-precise optical parts and lens sets for the medical instrument field. We offer competitive prices for businesses (B2B) while guaranteeing top-notch quality that comes from our “Made in Germany” reputation.

6. AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

Moulded Optics designs, moulds, and manufactures extremely precise parts for the automotive sector. These parts, like lenses and mirrors used in headlamps, play a crucial role in achieving top optical performance for advanced headlight systems in cars.

7. POLYMER INJECTION MOULDING

At Moulded Optics, we offer tailored solutions from the very beginning of creating a product to making the tools and then manufacturing them. We work with various special engineering plastics like PTFE, PEEK, and more. Our plastic injection moulding process uses advanced machines and efficient techniques, ensuring incredibly precise results that perfectly blend top quality with great value.

AIRFIELD
LIGHTING
EXCELLENCE

Moulded Optics has extensive experience crafting optical components like prisms and specialised glass covers used at airports and airfields worldwide, both big and small.

NAVIGATING THE SKIES
These optical pieces are crucial for airport safety. They help planes take off, land, and move around safely, especially during challenging weather
or low visibility at night

BEYOND THE AIRPORT RUNWAYS
Our optical components are placed on runways, taxiways, stop lines,
and systems like PAPI and VASI, which guide planes during landing.

UNMATCHED EXPERTISE IN AIRFIELD LIGHTING

Airfield lighting is a specialized field, and not all companies can handle it. Some might offer limited solutions. But Moulded Optics goes above and beyond, offering comprehensive services that set us apart. When it comes to airfield lighting, we’re the clear choice.

ELEVATING SAFETY
Upgrading airport lighting to advanced technologies like LED lights is essential. It improves pilot visibility and saves energy, which is crucial for safe landings and takeoffs. Poor lighting can lead to accidents, including runway incidents and collisions, risking passengers and crew. It can also make flying uncomfortable and stressful for everyone. Choose Moulded Optics for our unmatched expertise in addressing these vital airfield lighting challenges.

MATERIAL FEATURES

QUALITY MATERIALS
FOR AIRFIELD PRISMS

At Moulded Optics, we’re committed to using materials that meet strict RoHS and REACH regulations. The most commonly used glass type is B270-equivalent Borosilicate 33, which is great for making airfield prisms through blank moulding.
Ensuring Safety and Sustainability: These regulations ensure that the materials we use are safe for the environment and human health. B270-equivalent Borosilicate 33 is a strong and reliable glass that’s perfect for airfield prisms.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

We make our optical elements using a process called blank moulding. This method allows us to create various shapes and designs for our prisms. We can even make prisms with one side polished, and the other side can have special features for directing light in specific ways.

Tailored Prism Design: Blank moulding is a versatile technique that helps us design prisms to meet different lighting needs.

COATING EXPERTISE

We apply special coatings to our prisms in-house. These coatings include things like reflex coatings (like aluminium/chromium or silver vapourisation) and antireflective coatings (like magnesium fluoride).

Elevating Prism Performance: These coatings improve the performance of our prisms by reducing glare and enhancing their ability to direct light effectively. We also offer various other coatings, like UV blockers, IR blockers, and colour coatings, to meet specific requirements.

SAPPHIRE WINDOW -
FOR EXTRA DURABILITY

Sapphire is incredibly tough, almost as tough as diamond. It’s super resistant to scratches, which makes it perfect for aerospace applications. At Moulded Optics, we use a special technique to attach sapphire windows to airfield lighting prisms.

SAFEGUARDING EXCELLENCE WITH SAPPHIRE
Sapphire’s strength and scratch resistance are crucial for aerospace use. It helps protect the prisms and keeps them working well for a long time.

OUR EXPERT PROCESS
Our skilled technicians are trained to carefully attach a thin sapphire plate to the prism’s exit window. We keep a close eye on the whole process, documenting and tracking all the details.

MASTERING PRECISION
Our years of experience in this area have shown that this method results in a strong and durable bond between the sapphire windows and the prisms.

TEMPERING FOR TOUGHNESS
To make the prisms even more resistant to sudden changes in temperature (thermal shock), Moulded Optics can apply thermal tempering. The extent of tempering depends on the prism’s shape and other factors.

HOW THERM AL TEM PERING ELEV ATES PRISM ENDURANCE
Thermal tempering boosts the prisms’ ability to withstand rapid temperature changes, which is crucial for their performance and longevity.
